We showed you a few pictures of the 2010 BMW 5 series GT concept showed earlier at this year's Geneva Motor Show, but now the official images and details have been released, set for a 2010 model year debut. In a way, the 5 GT follows in the footsteps of the BMW X6 in the world of gender-bending vehicles. The GT will fall in between the new 5-Series sedan and wagon in terms of interior volume and size.
For America, expect two engine choices. Naturally, BMW's glorious twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six will be used in the 535i GT, but consumers looking for eight-cylinder power will be able to upgrade to the 550i GT, using a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8. The only transmission initially available will be the new eight-speed automatic borrowed from the new 760i sedan. BMW says that the 535i GT should sprint from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds, with the 550i GT coming in at 5.5 seconds.
