Fiat 500 makes headlines once more, as befits an authentic Made in Italy icon. This time its an original Fiat 500 show car dedicated to the most famous fashion doll ever: Barbie. This exceptional vehicle, created by a partnership between the Fiat Centro Stile and Mattel, will be given officially to Barbie on 9 March next, at her fiftieth birthday celebrations in Milan.

Its a fashionista car but quite tongue-in-cheek and with lots of charm: just like Barbie herself. The gleaming paintwork resembles varnish and definitely makes for a shock effect, achieved with deep lacquered colour using ultra fine aluminium plunged in deep, up-to-the-minute pink. The seating is upholstered in strikingly soft fabrics: silver laminated Alcantara is not only trendy but plush to the touch and its glimmer bounces as far as the roof panel. Then there are mats enhanced with natural silk yarn and sleek viscose, not to mention lip glosses in brilliant colours stored in the glove compartment, plus a LED-decked vanity mirror to ensure perfect application. And there's more. The car has more features than a crown has jewels! Crystals sparkle on interior bezels, hubcaps, outer window mouldings and antenna and even outline the dolls famed silhouette on the pillars. Lastly, this Fiat 500 show car also has its own glossy cover, featuring the distinctive Sixties version of the Fiat 500 and a Barbie autograph.

The latest Fiat 500 show car will appear in public for the first time on Monday 9 March, from 6.30pm onwards, when it will race through the quintessential streets of Milans fashion district. Barbie will be aboard and she'll have her own special driver: Ken, of course. On arriving at the entrance to La Rinascente department store, in Piazza Duomo, Barbie will leave the car and walk the unique pink carpet created just for her. The band Nena will be playing live in the background, reviving some of the most famous pop songs from the fifty years of the legendary fashion doll's existence.

500 by Gucci

Couple of months ago Fiat announced a limited edition Fiat 500 by Gucci. After that time, I did not hear anything about this car. Hopefully, I saw the new photos from Fiat. Unexpectedly photos are with a woman, called Natasha Poly. Instead of details of the 500 by Gucci, we can see the details of Natasha.

Let's go back to 500 by Gucci, interpretation of 500 by contemporary fashion Gucci is better than my expectations. Except too many Gucci logos! The reason why I am surprised with by Gucci edition is the exquisite interior detail quality. Gucci reflected the high quality production inside the car also, this situation does not happen all the time. Some of the limited editions only focused on sticking its logo around the car and does not focus on increasing the production quality. However, Gucci realised how to interpret the car interior and we did not see any disappointing result. Even though I am not a Gucci fan, after 500 by Gucci edition I changed my perception towards the brand.

This sexy fashion item is going to be available on June with starting price of €17000. Honestly, for this price tag you cannot buy something special like this! But Mini by Goodwood edition is also a very strong rival ;)

Future of Transportation! Be Careful

Last one decade we see very interesting concept vehicles as the future of transportation. Segway Ginger was revealed as something state of art and it should have changed the way we mobilise, but it didn't! Later on, BMW revealed a motorcycle with a decent roof. This was also failed. The failure of future transportation never demotivated people to invent new things.

Last night I watched the Gadget Show on Channel5, which is presented by Jon Bentley. I mention his name because, readers outside of UK can easily remember him from Fifth Gear and Top Gear. There are four more people on the show :) They don't involve with car that much but they show something technologies for future transportation. And in last episode, Pollyanna Woodward drove or wore or rode something which allows to mobilise human beings. Technically you cannot get into this motorcycle looking vehicle. And it does not have a steering wheel. In addition, it does not have ABS, traction control, electronic stability control, hill hold function, radar guided cruise control, pre crash sensors, parking sensors, rear view camera. Actually you have to do all these things by yourself, because you are the vehicle.

This interesting thing works with electric motor and it can either rear wheel or front wheel, depends on your mood! As a result of this, you can have enjoyment of oversteering and feel the excitement in your internal organs! And all these happens with a small tire. The reality of the vehicle is, you sit on the tire and your weight determines the level of traction :)

It is the funniest looking vehicle I have ever seen. If you want to ride or drive in sitting position, you have to sit on the tire and create a very unique look and motivate people to look at you. In the meantime, you can oversteer in this position but I would not recommend. The consequences are definitely catastrophic and you will be on the cover of the newspapers. Moreover, you must be extremely careful while trying to move forward on hills. If you cannot manage to go straight, keep in mind you are sitting above the engine and tire. Try not to crash! It would not be very pleasant.

This unfortunate condition may happen again, if someone crashes you from the back. As the vehicle does not have anything to protect you, the result is going to be terrible. Good part, your feet are the steering wheel and you can show your Formula One style driving ability in everywhere.

If you are planning to live your life in danger and find some excitement, this is your vehicle. Or just buy a Fiat 500 cabrio or Smart. They are small, efficient and you don't have any serious risks while driving :) However, it is still state of art design and technology. I am sure that, it will be presented in technology museum in future. Moving the traction wheel from rear to front while driving is something innovative.

Keenan Cahill and Fiat 500

When I think about the one decade, the Internet technology changed many things even though we could not realise it properly. We can share any moment of our life with our mobile phone through Twitter, YouTube or Facebook. We can even publish our book through blogs! Especially YouTube allowed us to create our own global TV channel. Technically, when you open your YouTube channel, you have your own TV channel. I cannot guarantee about the ratings but you have the whole internet audience for you.

Recently I discovered someone called Keenan Cahill on YouTube. He opened his YouTube channel and received more than two hundred millions viewers and took videos with 50cent, Jennifer Aniston, David Guetta, and Katty Perry celebrate his birthday with a video. Basically, he is a YouTube sensation! Unfortunately, he has an illness but this adverse condition did not stop his ambition and passion. Like many people I respected his performance. Sorry, I forgot to mention what he is doing on YouTube. He is lip-syncing songs, but his style is amazing and received two hundred millions of hits!

Now Fiat is focused on 500 model for USA. This car is something really unusual for US Market. Fiat 500 is introducing something totally unexpected for US and focused to increase the attention. My suggestion is; Fiat can make videos with Keenan for 500. Fiat 500 is a part of popular culture and Keenan is one of the most popular people on YouTube. He is incredibly creative and he is really passionate for his work. I cannot thing anyone better for fiat 500! Passion and creativity!

Fiat 500 by Gucci

Car and fashion brand engagements are very familiar things in automotive industry. But most of the time, nobody hears anything about that and it stays hidden forever. This time, it is different with Fiat 500! My favourite car and one of the best looking one on market, and probably the cheapest one.

Fiat and Gucci introduced the Fiat 500 Gucci model, this strategy is not limited with car but also Gucci has a special collection for 500. Sound really nice and creative. As a matter of fact, people who are planning to buy this car may not able to effort The 500 Gucci collection. Price tag of this car is only €17000 and that’s not something very expensive for a “car”, meanwhile a bag from The 500 collection might be more expensive than the car :)

I really don’t like Gucci brand because of show off style but 500 looks really nice with Gucci touch. As a matter of fact, the car on picture has a very high suspension setting! I hope they won’t sell the car with this setting, unless it will ruin the all picture!

Excellence of Fiat

Detroit motor show is a milestone for automotive industry. It will be remembered as an important turning point for Maserati. After the announcement from Fiat’s CEO Marchionnne, Maserati is not the old Maserati as we know.

For a quite long time, Maserati SUV rumour was buzzing in automotive world. And many people know that it was going to happen one day, because current Fiat CEO is so ambitious to turn Fiat into Volkswagen, an automotive empire. But he is doing it by ruining the brands! If you say this to him, he would say Porsche has an SUV also. But Porsche is not Maserati. Maserati is one of the most respectful brands in automotive industry and has a longer heritage than the Ferrari, therefore the products should reflect this cultural identity.

An SUV for Maserati and manufacturing it based on Jeep Grand Cherokee chassis is the worst thing you can do to Maserati. I don’t know anything worse than this, a Maserati based on Jeep! In order to produce SUV, Fiat will pour lots of money to this project and also Fiat has to compete with Land Rover, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi. I can predict their point, Maserati is a niche brand and it will be a niche SUV! But it won’t be, because the competitors are the masters of SUV and they offer everything which consumers looking for. For that reason, Maserati SUV project will be a very expensive for Fiat. And also a big question mark for long term sales performance!

My opinion; instead of pouring cash into this interesting project, Fiat can focus on shifting the quality of Maserati vehicles and offer more technology. Maserati has an excellent design philosophy and if they offer a similar level of technology to Germans, nobody can keep up with it. Instead of spreading the energy of company into different projects, they should focus on improving the current projects.

Maserati SUV will receive high demand for short term but after the consumers lose their excitement towards the vehicles, everything will be the same!

A detailed explanation for the problem of German Cars

For very long time I was trying understand what is wrong with German cars. I didn’t make mistake while writing, German cars. There is always something missing with them, I could not understand but German cars never have the same taste with Italian cars. Of course, I am not licking cars to identify their differences. I am pretty sure that all German cars would taste the same :)

And recently I found the problem with German cars. The huge problem which irritates me for very long and irritates many other people, I am using sales figures of Italian cars as a proof! German cars are offering everything; perfection, design (not all of them), efficient, luxury, perfect, gray, very gray, light gray, very dark gray and this goes forever. Germans cars are doing what you told them to do! Actually if a German car goes wrong, it terribly goes wrong. This happened in 2003-2004 with Mercedes E Class, electronic brake system and electronic control modules of C Class. Anyway, they don’t cause trouble anymore. The main thing is German cars are doing what they are supposed to do and they do not questionize. They just are doing it!

A German car always handles well, the automatic screen wipers always works with the same amount of rain, engine always makes the same sound, all the parts inside the car have the same millimetric distance within each other. This combination of perfection obsession is not matching with human being because we are not perfect and we want things different. I think the best explanation for German cars is they are like trains. They are doing what they are supposed to do, trains cannot change travel anywhere else than railway and they always follow a route.

The Italian cars are like pizza, each pizza is a unique dish. It is nearly impossible to have the same pizza, even if you manage to have the same one you cannot eat in the same way. All the mozzarella cheese will try to go somewhere else, you will try to make some weird moves to eat the slice and some vegetables will fell on your trousers while you are trying to clean your trousers, your elbow will hit to pizza. Basically each time you try to eat an Italian food, you will have a new adventure like in Italian cars. Each Italian car is totally unique, I don’t know how they manage to do it but they are excellent at producing each car unique. There is no identical twin of a Ferrari 458 or Alfa Romeo MiTo or Fiat 500. Even if the factory is robotized, their supplier may not be robotized and their production technique might be influence the employees emotional conditions.

Therefore each Italian car is like a sculpture, you cannot find the same one. And Italian cars do not react as you wished, try to control a Ferrari 599 GTO. Jeremy Clarkson tried to do it in “Italian Job” and he failed, try to control an Alfa MiTo diesel. The electronic systems will help you but the car will control you. You will do what the car is ordering you!

And lastly British cars; very basic definition, there is always something is missing. In order to proof this, just look at British taps! They have separate taps for hot and cold water. You cannot find this in other part of the world. British engineers never connect hot and cold water together, you either burn your hands or freeze your hand. There is no balance and you can face with this ugly truth even in the most prestigious hotels or in houses. Everything looks excellent, suddenly you want wash your hand, and you burn your hands!

You can find this in British cars also, everything is excellent. Design, materials, engines but you cannot have a door closing aid in a Bentley Azure. This is a very basic technology from Germans, when your door is not fully closed the hydraulic system closes for you. But you cannot have this in a Bentley Azure! This car costs more than a country and you have to close your door properly by yourself. But still I like British cars they are combination of Mr. Bean and Paul Smith shirt!
