Blue Smoke!

I am sure, you might have seen some people accelerating with their superfast cars as soon as they run their engines. Unfortunately, this behaviour is quite common with those drivers. Accelerating like in a Hollywood movie might sound nice but have an adverse effect. The adverse effect is very basic, the engine starts to burn engine oil in additional to petrol!

As soon as the engine starts, it is not possible lubricate every single part of the engine. And accelerating without hesitation leads to scuff the cylinders with insufficient lubrication. You might be thinking, do we have to wait? Of course not. You need to be more gentle to avoid this problem.

Unfortunately, Greek gods do not manufacture car engines and paying lots of money does not change the fundamentals of physics. Whether you have an expensive car or not, if you push the limits of the engine without waiting for couple of minutes would probably end up with the same tragedy. Blue smoke from the exhaust and burning engine oil!

Just watch the smoke from the Mercedes ML63 AMG's exhausts!

Brabus vs Price Tag

Brabus, German modification company specialised with Mercedes cars. It is really hard to spot one on the streets, they are very expensive and many people reluctant to pay that amount of money for a modified Mercedes. However, there is a compensation for that price tag! They are fast cars! Even an AMG seems to be slow when it is compared with a Brabus.

Recently, Brabus announced the world's fastest four-seat cabrio. It is capable of doing 370kph or 231 mph. And accelerates to 100 kph (60 mph) in 3,7 seconds with 800 hp and 1047 nm torque powered engine. These figures are really impressive like its price tag, £421.000 still for a Mercedes. That is the only problem Brabus forgot to resolve.

For this amount of money, you may buy a house, couple of Bentleys, Ferraris, Porsches or Aston Martins. Think of any super car and think again with plural word form. Brabus is overpriced like a Tom Ford sweater. It offers a very high quality fabric with respectful design but in the end, that's a sweater. Like Brabus, whatever it offers, in the end that's a Mercedes. That's why, you don't see them that much.

I Drove It: Mercedes CLS 350 CDi

For the first time, I want to share my opinions on a car, which I drove recently. Usually I don't write about test drives but sometimes it is worth to share with you. Recently, I drove the Mercedes CLS 350 CDI. CDI means diesel in Mercedes language. As usual, I was expecting a senseless driving experience with the CLS. Most of the Mercedes vehicles I drove for last five years did not give the same pleasure like BMW. I mean the sportiveness!

But this time, things have changed. CLS was not acting like a traditional conservative Mercedes, it was offering a real driving pleasure. Unlike other models, new CLS was a like a magnet. Trying to grab you more and more!

Actually, it was very agile and nimble for a Mercedes on its size. The steering wheel was not like a Porsche 911 but it was much better than many other Mercedes. Diesel engine did not have any turbo lag during the acceleration and offers a very smooth ride. Additionally, the 7g Tronic plus auto gearbox had some reluctance for kick downs but that's acceptable (Actually many cars have this problem). Suspension was the standard steel springs, which are set to be sportive but also offer comfort. Don't expect the BMW style suspension settings from a Mercedes.

Unfortunately, interior had some plastic bits and they annoyed me. The plastic parts of steering wheel were below the Mercedes standards but the dashboard was covered with leather. A good trade off! The CLS I drove had the Distronic Plus function. This system is a radar guided cruise control and enables the vehicle to stop and go without the driver's interference on any pedals. Basically, you set the cruise control speed and just hold the steering wheel. The car slows down, accelerates and stops by its own. This function also offers the BAS Plus brake technology. This system detects a possible front impact and brakes the car autonomously, if the driver does not wish to brake!

Only one thing, I didn't like! That was the ESP button. Actually, there is no existing ESP button on dashboard. Mercedes engineers decided to remove the button and place it on board computer. This made is very hard to turn off and find inside the menu labyrinth!

For me, it is the only four-door Mercedes offers fun to drive function. Worth to buy? Yes! And you must have the Distronic Plus function, it is the most entertaining function in a car, I have ever seen :) And I love Formula 1 style rear fog light

Another Maybach Shock

After the shock of Jay Z and Kayne West’s video clip of cutting Maybach into pieces, I found something more interesting! Maybach Music Group, you didn’t read wrong or I didn’t type wrong. There is a record label founded by the most stylish person at the Range Rover Evoque event with his sleepers, Rick Ross. Maybach Music Group seems to be inspired by the Maybach car, how I know? Just watch their video clip and you can understand it very clearly!

There is one thing, which I cannot understand for very long time! Why the rappers are obsessed with Maybach, not with Bentley or Rolls Royce. They use these brands on their video clips too but they have a high level of predisposition to Maybach. And the underlying reason is, they love Mercedes! What does this mean? They love Mercedes, Mercedes makes Maybach and they love Maybach. Very simple explanation for a complicated emotional bond.

I am very happy for one thing, Wilhelm Maybach never seen all these things! Who is Wilhem Maybach? Founder of Maybach brand, and he played key role during the first years of Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft. Herr Maybach is a very respectful engineer and he had important role during the development of modern four-stroke engine.

We lost a Maybach on a Video Clip (Jay-Z and Kayne West)

Maybach has never been a dream car for me. Despite its state of art, technology and perfection in in every detail could not hinder the S-Class bits from my mind. In terms of sales figure, Maybach was a disaster for Mercedes, if Hollywood directors read the Maybach’s story they may make a movie based on a real story. Despite receiving low demand and overtaken by Rolls Royce, Maybach is a great car. You can see the perfect German engineering in every single detail, and it can be considered as the capabilities of Mercedes’s engineers. However, these facts don’t help to increase sales. They only help us to develop an emotional bond with the car.

Unfortunately, not everyone feel the same like me! Last week, American Rappers Jay-Z and Kayne West released a new video clip called Otis. In terms of music, they great talents! However I first read the title of the video clip, I didn’t dare to watch it. Usually this type of video clips; there are many girls, lots of money, champagnes, luxury cars, luxury house and etc (Reference, 1st video). Nothing really different or original. I think they thought the same and decided to boost the creativity with this video by destroying a Maybach.

Yes, dear Jay-Z and Kayne West destroyed a Maybach on their latest video clip. I wish they destroyed the car and finished the video, but they didn’t do this! Instead, they made it worse. Extremely worst, honestly they made the worst and the most expensive car on planet. They pushed their creativity into boundaries and decided to replace the front engine bonnet with the rear boot, cut the doors, cut the roof also, probably removed the catalytic converter to boost flames from exhaust, and covered fenders with shiny metals. They didn’t finish here, lastly they placed something on the boot which completed the scenery. These unidentified things remind me the Enterprise from Star Trek.

Overall, I gave ZERO to Star Trek inspired cabrio Maybach. Creativity, ZERO! Originality, ZERO! Aesthetic, ZERO! Jay-Z and Kayne West are great artist but they should focus on music not on car design :( After this video clip, I started to love Maybach more.

In the end, we realised you have lots of money! Jay-Z and Kayne West promoted their video really well on social media, well done ;)

The coolest ugly car, Mercedes G-Class! I found it ugly and too utilitarian, but it is really cool! Since 1979, its shape never changed. You still don't have many common function, which can be found in each modern car but this does not deteriorates its image.

Conservative + Traditional Mercedes = Third!

Recently Daimler's CEO announced his concerns on the sales performance of Mercedes. For many decades, Mercedes achieved higher sales figure than BMW and Audi. But world has changed, one decade ago we did not have chance to use mobiles phone as a computer, internet was not fast enough to stream movies and many internet companies were bankrupted. Now, everything is totally different! Mobiles are used mainly for their computers functions. We use Skype to talk overseas, Google people are the new rich and it is very easy to watch HD video on internet. This shows that, if you don't change youself, you are out of the game.

Mercedes has changed significantly during last one decade, nobody can deny this! But they didn't change enough to keep up with the demands of consumers. Now, Aston Martin has a small luxury car, Mini has a Rolls Royce edition. Like the world, automotive world also changed! Being too conservative and traditional is not good that anymore. Bentley and Rolls Royce are still traditional but, they integrated the tradition with contemporary environment. Mercedes also changed their design philosophy and offers more sportive vehicles. But, I cannot say the same things for Mercedes like I said to Bentley or RR!

Mercedes is still too conservative and traditional for this era. I do know that, Mercedes doesn't wish to lose it main customers and destroy the brand loyalty but as they are more loyalty to traditional customers, they kind of ignore the contemporary world. That is the main problem, being too much conservative and traditional will not help to increase market share while BMW and Audi offer more contemporary vehicles. Mercedes offers better technology compared to other, but it is still packed with too much of conservative elements. Especially the design. You feel the excess amount of conservative and tradition bits in each Mercedes car, even with the new ML and CLS. They are really nice vehicles but when you have alternative like Range Rover, BMW X Series, BMW 6 series and Audi models, many people think again.

Thinking again is not good for consumption. If your consumers think your competitor as serious alternative, this means one thing; you are not that good anymore! If your consumers liked you, they wouldn't consider the others that much.

I hope Mercedes will change this conservative and traditional look, Bentley is a great example for Mercedes. They should do the same, integration!

Maybach Facts

I found some interesting facts about the Maybach. If you don’t know Maybach, I would like to provide a brief information. Maybach is the main competitor of Rolls Royce and it is under the Daimler brand. For some people, it is a luxury Mercedes!

The interesting facts about the Maybach; it is the longest production car with 6,166mm long and the heaviest production car by 2,855 kg. This interesting and probably useless information will not change your life or improve your automotive knowledge that much. But when you combine these interesting information with something unexpected, your brain may store Maybach in a better place.

Unfortunately, Maybach is one of the slowest selling production vehicle. Despite all efforts, the sales of Maybach never came close to its main rival Rolls Royce. And currently, the production might be finished! Honestly, I really like this car. I had chance to experience the state-of-art features of the Maybach and I was really impressed.

However, there is one single problem with Maybach. It is too much conservative and too much Mercedes to compete with Rolls Royce.

A Gentle Touch by a Bentley in Monaco

I am reporting this a bit late but I couldn't stop myself writing this. The most stylish car crash happened in Monte Carlo last week. This lady in Bentley Azure gently touched the other cars. As the Azure weighs more than an average house, this gentle touch destroyed couple of cars with reasonable prices!!!

These unfortunate cars are; Porsche 911, Aston Martin Rapide, Mercedes S Class (This is the cheapest one) and a Ferrari F430. Total cost of gentle touch is estimated more than €100,000. This sounds much but all these brands are charging lots of money for repair costs. Unless their owners will take to private workshops, they have to bear this cost. Sorry, the owner of the Bentley's insurance will bear this cost. Unfortunately, this lady will lose her discount on her insurance!

What can I suggest after this crash? If you have a heavy car, you will always create impressive crashes regardless of the speed.

There is no injury involved with the crash.
